Lazer Star Lights Awarded Patent for Light Bar Innovations

Lazer Star Lights was recently awarded patent number 8974102, 2015, which protects Lazer Star’s intellectual property of a number of innovative solutions for LED light bars.

A drawing from Lazer Star's recent patent filings.

Foremost among the patent’s claims is the unique power design of Lazer Star’s light bars: power input is built into both end caps on the light bar so it can be powered from either side to accommodate your vehicle. This design allows allows multiple bars to be connected, or “daisy chained,” utilizing the power input on the opposite end.

Lazer Star's technology allows for multiple light bars to be "daisy chained" together with a single power supply.

The design also reflects an industry first for Lazer Star: a color-swapping light bar. The Racer Special LED bars allow for multiple, switchable colors in a single LED bar. In addition, the patent recognizes two further innovations from Lazer Star: the lights are compatible with both AC and DC power, and the LED light bars can be mounted in three different ways.

Side mount position Bottom mount position Rear mount position

“Lazer Star Lights has long been an innovator in aftermarket lights,” said Lazer Star Vice President Ron Scott. “It’s a testament to the creativity of our staff and engineers to have these latest developments officially recognized and protected with this patent. We strive to produce innovative designs using quality components, and we are dedicated to continue pioneering lighting technology.”

This patent is not the end as Lazer Star has filed for continued improvements and new technologies in their family of LED light bars. Look for more innovations in the near future.

All of the patent information, as well as descriptions of the products that utilize the proprietary technology recognized in the patent, can be found in the new 2015-2016 Lazer Star Lights catalog. Click here to view the catalog online or emailinfo@lazerstarlights.com to request a print copy be mailed to you.

Lazer Star Lights Tackles The Mint 400

Lazer Star Lights rolled into Las Vegas, NV last week ready to take on the world famous Mint 400. As the third race in the 2015 Best in the Desert Series, the course proved to be one of the most rugged races ever for a lot of the teams. Battling an immense amount of carnage and difficult conditions, Lazer Star racers were able to pull through with an impressive pair of finishes.

Murray Racing
Starting at the line in a position of 21st out of 55 in the 1900 class, the Lazer Star Lights backed Murray Racing Can-Am pushed hard to advance in the first lap. Coming into the 2nd lap in 6th place, they showed high hopes at this point in the race for pulling off a podium finish. They slowly crept their way towards the front at 3rd place with about 2 miles left in the second lap, when their Can-Am Maverick went into "limp mode" due to a faulty throttle body wire causing the fuel management system to falter. They were able to avoid a DNF by crawling to the pits at a very limited pace of 5mph.

As the Murray Racing crew tore the car apart to troubleshoot the problem as quickly as possible, 6 cars had advanced positions in front of them, causing miss out on a chance at a podium finish. Derek and Jason finished out the race with an official 10th place finish. Murray Racing will be busy over the next few weeks as they head to the Baja Sur 500 in Cabo San Lucas on April 15th-19th and then to the Silver State 300 in Las Vegas, NV on May 1st-3rd.

Matt Lovell Racing
With the morning races out of the way it was time for the trophy trucks to strut their stuff. Following a race-ending mechanical issue in the Parker 425, the subsequent repairs, testing and preparation, Matt Lovell set his sights on the Mint 400. After the parade and a lengthy tech inspection, the Lazer Star Lights/MLR #7244 truck was ready to tackle the rugged desert terrain along with 52 other trucks.

Matt throttled forward into the first lap while the truck handled everything the rough course could throw at it. The truck was running in pristine condition as MLR incorporated a new cooling system on the bellhousing that kept temperatures 100 degrees lower than they were at Parker. Everything was going smooth until about mile marker 30, where a life threatening 2-Truck pile-up closed the race course while 2 Flight for Life helicopters rushed two of the racers off the course, You can read more here: http://www.gofundme.com/jpoole  This unfortunatley held up the MLR crew for over an hour. With dozens of cars lining up behind him, Matt knew he would have to give everything he had through the quickly deteriorating course to achieve a top 5 finish.

Holding off all but one of the 50 cars behind him, he was able to cut through the dust to achieve his goal. Accumulating a total of 5 bent wheels, Matt was glad to even finish on what he called the "toughest race I've ever raced." Because of the hold at the wreck site, he ended up completing about 80% of the race at night. "The Lazer Star Lights definitely gave us an edge on the track. I had no need to even utilize the top row light bar because the bottom bar was cutting through the dust more than I could have hoped for. The night came but we did not get any slower because of Lazer Star." Matt Lovell Racing is currently prepping the Lazer Star Lights equipped trophy truck for the "Longest Off-Road Race In The United States": the BITD Vegas To Reno, scheduled for August 13-15.

Lazer Star Lights Racers Ready for Mint 400

Lazer Star Lights sponsored racers are rolling into Las Vegas, NV this week in preparation for the Best in the Desert Mint 400. Known as "The Great American Off-Road Race," the Mint 400 will put Lazer Star sponsored race teams up against some of the best off road competition in the world as participants take on this challenging desert course.

Lazer Star Lights is proud to announce the renewal of several partnerships for the 2015 race season. Matt Lovell of Matt Lovell Racing and Dana Nicholson of Fleshgear/Fuel Off Road will represent Lazer Star in the trophy truck classes, while Jason and Derek Murray of Murray Racing and Bryan Buckhannon of Buckhannon Racing will compete in the UTV Pro class.

About Matt Lovell Racing:
Matt Lovell returns as Lazer Star's flagship racer in 2015, set to compete in the Lazer Star Lights / Matt Lovell Racing #7244 mid-size trophy truck. Though they faced much difficulty in several 2014 events, Matt and crew continued to work hard and made several necessary adjustments towards the end of the year that helped them earn a second place class finish in the Best in the Desert "Henderson 250" and season-ending victory at the SNORE "Rage at the River." Lovell looks to carry that momentum over to 2015 as he takes on the competition in Best in the Desert and select SNORE races.

About Fleshgear / Fuel Off Road:
Dana Nicholson has already accomplished plenty in the off road industry, but he's not resting on his laurels. The co-producer and founder of Fleshwound Films' Crusty Demons of Dirt video series and Fleshgear apparel company, Nicholson recently turned his attention to four wheels. Nicholson has raced in BITD and Lucas Oil events, so be on the lookout in 2015 for some updates from the Crusty Demon himself.

About Murray Racing:
The Murray Brothers are well-known in the world of UTV racing for their tenacity and competitiveness. Derek and Jason work hard to prepare for Best in the Desert and SCORE events, and as a result set high expectations for themselves. This winner's mentality paid off several times in 2014, as Murray Racing took the checkers in the SCORE Imperial Valley 250. The victory, in addition to several other strong finishes including 2nd in the San Felipe 250, earned the Murray Brothers 4th place overall in the 2014 SCORE UTV Class Championship. Murray Racing also finished 3rd overall in the 2014 BITD UTV Pro Championship. Their mission will be no different in 2015: win races and win championships. Their new turbocharged Can-Am Maverick X ds should help with that.

About Bryan Buckhannon:
Bryan Buckhannon has been a fixture in GNCC Racing since the mid-2000s, and since his first class championship in 2008 has dominated the 4x4 ATV competition. In total, Buckhannon has claimed six 4x4 Open championships, highlighted by his perfect season of 13 consecutive victories in 2013. In 2014, Buckhannon also ventured into UTV racing, participating in GNCC and select BITD events. Bryan is a pure competitor, and we look forward to seeing what this champion will do in 2015.

Lazer Star Lights Racer Levi Shirley Takes Third at 2015 King of the Hammers

Lazer Star Lights sponsored racer Levi Shirley wowed King of the Hammers spectators and worldwide audience as he came across the line in third place in the premier 4400 pro class race. Shirley was one of just 17 out of more than 100 drivers to complete the course in the allotted time, and the only solo driver to do so.

The King of the Hammers has quickly grown into one of the biggest off-road events of the year, and is widely regarded as one of the toughest races in the world. Lazer Star Lights sponsored racer Levi Shirley didn’t let the build-up and celebration interfere with his focus and preparation. “All the time in the shop, the work with our sponsors,” Levi said after the race, “we put so much into this before we even hit the dirt. Other people might be there for different reasons, but we’re here to race.”

Despite what the results might lead you to believe, Levi’s day on the KOH course was anything but uneventful. “We had a little bit of bad luck here and there but overall it was a good day.” Levi had to battle some suspension issues throughout the race, making both the whoop-laden desert stretches and technical rock crawling sections extra difficult.

Still, Levi got off to a solid start, running in the front of the pack after the first lap through the major rock beds. Levi avoided the major traffic jam that built up on Jackhammer within the first hours of the race. “We really emphasized qualifying, and I qualified 8th which got me an early start. That lead over the rest of the cars really helped us get through the rock beds before they got too hairy.”

The next bit of bad luck came on lap two, when Levi was working on Wrecking Ball. “The car got wedged so I had to get out to run the winch line, but the winch wasn’t working,” Levi recalled. “I got through without winching and discovered the top half of the winch had broken off.” The Lucky Dog pit crew removed the broken winch at Pit 2A, and by the time Levi made it to Pit 1, the crew had repaired the winch with some parts borrowed from a spectator.

Fortunately for Levi and the other front runners, race coordinator Dave Cole made the decision to detour the race leaders on their second lap through the rock beds. By that time, Jackhammer had become a parking lot as roughly 50 cars either struggled to ascend the mountain or waited impatiently for the cars ahead to clear out. “My crew radioed me about the detour but I didn’t really understand what they were saying, the engine was loud and they were a bit garbled. I was a little surprised but relieved when I got to the checkpoint and Dave Cole explained that we were bypassing Jackhammer.”

In a race that requires so much winching, it seems odd that a racer would take on the challenge solo, with no co-driver to help run a winch line. “This was my 5th year running KOH, but the first time going solo,” Levi explained. “We actually built this car with the idea of running these Ultra4 races solo. This let us play with the geometry of the car, allowed us to make it a little narrower which makes for easier navigation through the rock beds. Most Ultra4 events don’t require quite as much winching, so we have a good setup going into the other races.”

At the end of the day, after 9 hours in the car battling for the top spots and fighting the menacing King of the Hammers course, Levi crossed the line in physical third place. Levi was confirmed as the official 3rd place finisher of the 2015 King of the Hammers, one of just 17 out of the roughly 130 entrants and the only solo driver to complete the course.

“I’m incredibly grateful to my sponsor Lazer Star Lights,” Levi said. “Their support means the world to me, and even though I finished before sundown, knowing that I have this light setup gives me extra confidence throughout the race.”

Levi will once again be racing both the East and West Ultra4 Regional Series this year, as well as the Ultra4 Europe Series. Lucky Dog Racing will next prep the Maxxis Tires car for the MetalCloak Stampede, held May 8-9 in Sacramento, CA. The team will then travel overseas for the first round of the 2015 Ultra4 Europe series in France May 22-24. Levi’s father and owner of Lucky Dog Racing, Brian Shirley, will also be participating in Ultra4 East Regional events this year. Be sure to follow @LeviShirley on Instagram and Twitter, and check out the Lucky Dog Racing Facebook page for more updates on Levi’s races this year.
